I had understood that the police checks last only for 3 months. However, this seems to state otherwise:

For the country you currently live in, the police certificate must be issued no more than six months before you apply.

For countries where you have lived for six months or more, the police certificate must be issued after the last time you lived in that country.

Can anyone confirm if it anywhere else it is stated that it only lasts for 3 or 6 months?

I currently live in Canada, so that would be for Canada, correct? Per this statement..."For the country you currently live in, the police certificate must be issued no more than six months before you apply."

And then any other countries would apply to this... "For countries where you have lived for six months or more, the police certificate must be issued after the last time you lived in that country."

I actually just managed to find another thread which says this recently changed in May 2015. I had looked at other threads and I believe it used to be 3 month maximum validity. So I think I have managed to find the answer, thanks for your quick response though! :)

You do not need a PCC for Canada. Follow the Canada link and the first sentence tells you that you do NOT need to provide a PCC for a Canada with the PR application.
