When I submitted my application last December 2014, the police certificate was supposed issued within 3 months of sending the application. I had an issue with this because my certificate was 4 months from that date. In saying this, I still took the risk because I heard of other people who had that issue and were just asked to send in an updated one eventually (as opposed to CIC sending the whole application back). Might have not been the best of ideas that time.

But then, I saw this link now. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/intro.asp which states that police certificates are valid within 6 months. This link was updated on April 2015.

I wonder if I fall into this requirement now? Please shed a light on this. Thanks!

I would think that the new policy applies to those that submitted their application (or were asked to provide a PCC) after the change was implemented.

If you need an FBI IHSR from the U.S., it's currently taking ~ 4 months to receive.

Normally, it's best to wait for CIC to request something, but if your PCC takes more than a month or so to receive, you might want to order a new one now.
