As long as you mail it to Mississauga before it expires, you should be okay right? Mine expires in less than a month. I'm just worried that they might request another one, and I know getting one is a timely thing. =/ Anyone else mail there's in with it being close to expiring?

From what i understood it seems it has to be still in the 3 months when it gets to the visa office.. maybe someone else could confirm..

The certificate must have been issued no more than three months before you submit your application.

thats what is written on the website of CIC! (not really clear) ::)

I'm pretty sure submitting your application is when it is sent off to Mississauga. I'd like to hope so anyways.

Dyj is correct. Police certificates must have been issued no more than 3 months prior to the date they are received at CPC-M. For example, my FBI certificate was issued Dec 3, my application was received at CPC-M on Feb 15, so there were no issues. I had to get my application submitted before March 3rd, in order for it to be accepted.

is CPC-M Mississauga? or buffalo, where it will be forwarded too after the sponsor part is approved?

My understanding it as long as it's good when it hits the second processing office (Buffalo for example), they accept it.

Yes, CPC-M is Mississauga. Since the application is in Mississauga for about a month, it should ideally not expire for at least 1.5 months.

CPC-M. Once is it is within 3 months of being issued when it arrives at CPC-M, it is then held valid for a year. So there is no need to worry about the date when it gets to Buffalo. It is valid for a year, as long as it is no more than 3 months old when your application is submitted to CPC-M.

CharlieD10 is right. The 3 month validity applies to when the application is received in Mississauga.

Thanks for clearing it up. I have seen it mentioned a few times that because the background checks are for the sponsored person's part of the application, they need to be good on the date it's received at the office processing that part, but this is the internet, best to go off the CIC website and not forum posts :)

Is this black and white? Yes or No?

My certificate may be expired by a few days by the time it reaches Buffalo. I hope not.

The date that matters is when it reaches CPC-M, NOT Buffalo. As long as it gets to Mississauga before it is 3 months old, it will be good for a year, so it cannot expire by the time it gets to Buffalo, understand?

Well, my certificate was dated Dec 7, 2010 and my app reached Mississauga on March 17. But they still transferred my app to Buffalo.

If I'm beyond the 3 months, should I request another FBI cert now or wait until it's requested from Buffalo, in which case I'm waiting another 4 to 6 weeks for it?

Darn...
