Hi All!

My husband got his fingerprints/police cert done Nov 28/2012 and had his medical done Jan 3/2013... We are applying Outland US-- still no sign of police cert -- it said 5-6 weeks for that now I'm worried we got our medical done too early if the police cert doesn't arrive until Feb!

Does anyone know if timeframe is 5-6 weeks from date of service or from the date the money is withdrawn from applicants account from the FBI which was only done Jan 1/2013??? Gahhhhh!!

Hey,

I'm not sure since I'm not from the US, but I think the FBI clearance timeline is 12 weeks and not 5 to 6 weeks... so you might have to wait a little. It's best to leave the medicals to last, but in your case it's already done, so no need to worry about it... for now, make sure that the rest of your application is completely ready, and once the FBI cert arrives, you can send it off.. the medicals are valid for one year, and IF it's the only thing holding up your visa, the VO can decide to extend it so you don't have to re-do it at the end of the process.... so for now, nothing else to do.
Good luck,
Sweden

Thanks Sweden!

You've been so helpful in all of my questions so far! I think I'm just freaking out as wait times seem to just be going up and up and we had aimed to have it sent in latest kid Jan. it's frustrating but I guess there is nothing more I can do. Everything else is complete. I'm just anxious to submit it and then start the timer on the wait so we can get on with our lives in the process!

I can definitely understand the feeling... and waiting is frustrating... but you're lucky because for now the first stage approvals are really fast, and even if stage 2 takes longer than it used to for US applicants, quite a few get done in 6 to 7 months, so you should still be done in less than a year... and the fact that they can extend medicals if you're only missing that is also something that helps...
Good luck!

Some looks to be faster than others. Based on latest stats, 50% of all applications through US offices are being processed with maximum times of:
Buffalo - 9 months
Detroit - 9 months
LA - 7 months
New York - 8 months
Seattle - 7 months

My husband requested the FBI check three times last year...yes, it kept expiring (more than 3 months old) before we could get the rest of the paperwork together. The requests were in March, June and October - the March one took 4 weeks, the June one only 3 weeks, and the October one 5 weeks to receive. The FBI website states that checks "take approximately five to six weeks depending on the volume of requests received"...so I would expect that is pretty accurate considering our experiences. Our waiting time was from when we submitted the request - we received the results from the FBI about 1 week after our payment was processed.

My first attempt took 5 weeks including mailing to and from Canada. Still waiting on the second, as my fingerprints weren't readable... grr!

I did my medicals in November as well, which I think was a mistake. If I had known what I know now, I would've held off on the medicals until after my police clearance came back! Ah, hindsight is 20/20!

No, your application has to be received by CIC no more than 90 days after the date on the FBI background check. So the 90 day clock starts the day the FBI completes the check - if CIC receives your application within 90 days, you are fine. If you are like us and the three months passes without getting your application submitted, then you need to get a new FBI check.

Note: since Buffalo closed the website shows the NYC office is running at 12 months. Has anyone filed through that office? Hopfully it is actually faster than posted.
