The one big rule as a refugee is that you can never return to your country. You were only allowed to stay in Canada because you required protection. If you return to your country Canada assumes that you no longer need protection. If you know people who return to their country on and regular basis they immigrate through other means and were never refugees. 5 year is a long period for CIC to miss and I do believe as a previous refugee they will look to see where you have been living. I would contact a lawyer.
