I am having a hard time deciding my NOC code.

Breaking my head over choosing NOC 2173 (Software Engineers) or NOC 2174 (Computer programmers)

Below is the content mentioned on my experience letter -

• synthesize technical information to design and develop logical and physical specifications of the user requirements and translate to technical design document
. Design and co-ordinate the development, maintenance and production support of the software applications Monitoring software applications to accomplish one or more business functions
. To service all Incidents diligently and in accordance with the SLA's and to ensure that the software applications progresses without any Issues or errors.
. In case of Failure of the software applications, perform the root cause analysis, fix the errors, and implement changes by creating change Requests. Notify and keep abreast the impacted application teams with the development of the issues.
. Provide on call support for the software applications whenever required.
. Document, upgrade and develop maintenance procedures for software applications.
• Coordinate with the team in the development/support of the software applications
. Assist everyone to meet the vision of the project and contribute to the growth of the organization-
• Technologies worked on .NET, Java, Pega, AngularJs, JavaScript, VB Macros, Ms Access and 5QL
should you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Can you please advice if I should choose 2173 or 2174 ?

Thanks and Regards

Below is the reply I got from NOC team --

Good day,

Thank you for your interest in the NOC.

Based on the limited information you have provided, we are unable to propose a potential National Occupational Classification (NOC) code. Please conduct a more thorough search in the NOC Web site by using your occupational title or keywords related to your profession in the Quick Search box located at the top left side of the menu bar. This will generate a list of possible occupations. The education, main duties and employment requirements should also correspond to your occupation.

In order for us to provide you with a potential NOC code, we require the following additional information about the occupation:

- the exact job title;

- the education and work experience required by the employer for entry into the occupation; and

- the type of establishment in which the work is performed.

For reasons of security and privacy do not send any documentation electronically, such as resumes and government-issued case numbers or hyperlinks.

Thank you for contacting the NOC and have a nice day.

What should I answer for the type of establishment?

What should I answer for the type of establishment?

By type of establishment, they are referring to the nature of business of your employer - consulting, banking, financial services, IT, ITES, manufacturing etc.

Below is what I replied to NOC team just now.

Thanks for the information.

Below is the additional details about my job

1. Job Title - Senior Application Developer

2. Education and work experience required by the employer - Bachelor of engineering in computer science or related discipline; OR equivalent work experience in software development.

3. Type of establishment - the company is a subsidiary of a large American multinational banking and financial services organization; and provides software development services to this organization. The company website is abc.xyz.

I worked in this company for 5 years on a full time basis - 40 hours per week.

Can you kindly advise me a suitable NOC based on this additional information ?

Also while waiting for the NOC team reply, preemptively what do you guys suggest my NOC should be?

I am not sure what your NOC is. But please ensure that while selecting the NOC, the duties and responsibilities mentioned in the NOC should be a close match with the actual duties and responsibilities carried out by you at the respective job. You need not match the duties and responsibilities word by word, but the idea is to have the closest match in terms of the spirit of the duties and responsibilities (at least 60%-70% match).

Also, NOC should be selected on the basis of the match of actual duties and responsibilities carried out by you rather than the designation match in the NOC list.

Please note NOC Team will only give their suggestions, in the end, you will have to decide which one would be the closest fit for you.

Can I safely assume that the NOC team is also responsible for evaluating the work experience of people in Express Entry applications?

If I choose the NOC suggested by the NOC team, is it 100% confirmed that this NOC will be accepted in the express entry application ITA process?
