I suggest there is no need of any agent this forum will guide whatever info you want, dealing with agent is also not easy sometimes they spoil your case as well.

Though you asked for comments from ones who have applied through agent and reached Canada, I will share my view point, you may disagree.

I have applied through an agent, but believe me it is only because I was and am still not confident of the paper works especially when it comes to government related work; be it marriage certificate (which after lots of error finally did by myself), passport renewals (finally after 3 attempts did it through an agent) and so on.

Successful Immigration depends majorly on how you present you papers (documents and filling the forms), if you are confident of taking someone's help and complete it, then go ahead BECAUSE agents/consultants involvement is SIMPLY filling the forms (professionally) and attaching the documents and then just provide lip service. Their involvement otherwise will hardly have any positive impact on your case.
