The FBI Just Called

I just got a call from the FBI. They said that my FBI report should be mailed out in the next several days.

Dec. 1, 2009 I sent my first set of fingerprints. Mid March (over three months later) I received a letter stating they could not read my prints. :(

April 15, 2010 I sent a second set of fingerprints. Three months later (mid July) I started calling (304) 625-5590 asking about the status, They could not find the prints I sent them by registered mail. On July 26 I sent an email to liaison @ leo.gov asking about the second set of fingerprints. July 27 I received an email stating it was in process. Today. Aug. 4, 2010, The FBI called say they are sending the report in the next several days. Current processing time for second set of prints 16+ weeks.

Total wait time > 8 months.... Unbelievable!!! Especially since the FBI own site says they can process most civil prints in 24 hours. :-\

my partner's are supposed to be mailed out no later than Friday.

apparently, when I called last Friday, they still had to clear one more processing step.

I hope this means that they are legible - since if they weren't you would think that the final processing step would be moot, but we'll see.

Minna - can't they tell you? I always asked them if they were accepted or rejected, but considering they told you "they will be mailed out Friday" it should be good to go... CONGRATS!

nyssa - I didn't even know I could ask!!?? I kind of figured that they wouldn't tell me anything except that the were 'in process' and/or being mailed out and never even bothered to ask them!!

wow- what a missed opportunity!! well, now I'm REALLY going to hope that they are fine - why would they sent to a final processing if they weren't legible, right?? I will be so pissed at myself if they're not legible, because I knew they were in process 2 weeks ago!! I guess I'll call tomorrow if they don't show up in the mail tomorrow morning.

Call tomorrow and ask! Though from previous experience, I'd be shocked if they told you they were rejected at this point. They have all the information in the computer and should be able to tell you what stage they're in. The FBI people are usually very pleasant to talk to and will joke around with you. Good luck minna!

YAY!! the fingerprints arrived today!! I knew they would - I was actually headed to grab my phone to call in again when I heard the mailman drop the mail off.

Despite having printed out the fingerprint card on regular old paper, the prints were good!!! Makes me want to find the nice policewoman who did his prints and give her a big ole' hug.

Timeline - Prints sent June 1st, rec'd by FBI June 3rd, NO RECORD FOUND - August 5th. 9 weeks exactly from start to finish.

Now to wait until the file gets to Buffalo to send the prints in.....

I guess, technically, they said that they were processed on July 27th.

We live in Florida. The envelope is postmarked August 2nd (last monday).

ohh ok thanks :) minna! Im hoping i get mines soon so my app wont be delayed! i know fbi request is the last thing they look at in the process... I live in New Jersey so not to far from where they mail it from!

The ones i mailed in were expired so i had to get new ones and last time it took me almost 3 months!

I sent mine in early June and when I emailed them last night they said:

We have received your request and it is in process. Our total processing time is 12 weeks from the day we receive it.

Does in process mean they are ok and are checking them?

Unfortunately they don't let you know whether or not they're okay until the end. First they will charge you, then give it a week (give or take) and you should know. But all throughout, feel free to call and ask. I called once a week after 6-7 weeks right up until I was told my prints were legible and would be sent off.

Minna,

We got the same time line including how we didn't get our fingerprints before applying! I guess we will be anxiously waiting for the app to reach Buffalo! Congrats on receiving the certificate!

I just called again, and the rep was very helpful unfortunately they hvae rejected my prints again. This just leaves me devastated since we've been working on this since March, have spent huge $ on postage, have submitted several sets of fingerprints.... and now we're already 30 days into our 90 day deadline from the Canadian consulate. I'm going to have my fingerprints done +again+, but I just don't know whats going to make this set any different from the last 7, and this is the only thing holding up our application for PR. I'm so frustrated and I'm starting to feel like this is just utterly hopeless.
