There are a lot of shorter job market orientated college courses like vet technician, dental technician, office technician, IT something, marketing something or what have you, often 1 or 2 year courses. I don't really know the merits of those. Might help you get a job in the field.
Electrician and automechanic are trades so they are on apprenticeship. If you want to do those, you'd have to sign an apprenticeship with an employer and work as an apprentice for 3 to 4 years, going to the college only for a couple of months a year. There are so called pre-employment courses for trades, 1 year courses that supposedly prepare you for working in the trade and increase your job opportunities but IMO they are a waste of time and money. They need people in the trades here so it's easy to get in without the course and the employer will teach you what you need to know.
