Hi guys,

I have a very specific question. In the last 10 years, I have lived in a country other than mine (Austria more specifically), but since I have been there for converting my degree, I had a student visa in my passport which means that I wasn't allowed to work because I was there as a student .,and in the meantime I worked under table (without being declared as a worker by my employer) What I am afraid of, is that if I state that I have lived there (for 2 years), I might get refused the visa to Canada because I worked without being allowed to in another country, although I was a very very regular person, worked as a waiter.

Please help, what do you advise me to do.

As far the guide is concerned, this will not affect your FSW application. So far as you have no criminal record or security threat. To apply, you must have had 1 year experience in any of the 29 NOCs. You post doesn't state which profession u intend to apply under and if it is for FSW at all. I think you should give a bit more info for people to respond.....Mandie

Actually I have more than 5 years experience in one of the 29 NOCs. This is not what I am worried about. I am very concerned whether my application might be affected by the fact that during the 2 years I lived in another country, I worked not legally, in other words, I did something I was not allowed to do, because if you are carrying a student visa, you are not allowed to work, even if it is a very clean job (like waiter, in my case). Do you get me? I'm afraid to state that I lived in another country because they may check and find out that during that time I worked under table (without being allowed to). This is what worries me.
Should I state that I lived in Austria? Do I risk getting refused only because of this?

Hi Zoeland,

Are you planning to include the "under the table"job in your 5yr experience.....if the answer is NO....then you dont have to worry. You will not be able to provide any documents or paperwork for this job to CIC, since it was not legal.

What you have done though not acceptable but people have to do in order to survive......you worked hard....

You will have to produce PCC from Austria since you lived more than 6 months in Austria......so there is no way that you could avoid mentioning that in your application, and Frankly...you should not hide any information from CIC.

I agree with Mitali. I think you will be fine so far as you don't intend to mention the 2 year underground work as part of your experience. Indeed when it comes to personal history where you have to account for your life since 18, 'studying' could just cover that period. You definitely have to mention Austria in the personal history. Further, I don't know how PCC from Austria is like, as you need one from there since youve lived there more than 6 months. In the nutshell, I really don't see how the little underground work could jeopardize ur application.....Mandie

Thanks for the reply, but I don't think I know what a PCC is, indeed ..... ::)

Just like Mandie and co have commented ,There is nothing to fear about in your 'under table' job in Austria.
In the eyes of the law you were only a student in Austria unless you have other pieces of information about your stay in Austria which you have not stated here, otherwise for the period you lived there just write in the CIC forms that you were a student.Period.
This means you can not claim work experience during the time you lived in Austria.

Police Clearance Certificate is a mandatory for each country and applicant has stayed in for more than 6 months. I was alluding to the fact that you will need one for Austria.....Mandie
