Hi!
I am new to this forum and was hoping to hear of similar experiences or suggestions to my case.
I am really anxious for any advice or hear of others on this forum who have had a similar experience, please!

CIC rec'd my PR renewal application on June 20 2013 and ECAS indicated the application is under process as of Aug 13, 2013. I called CIC agents today, and they told me that PR is approved, but it has been sent to another department for review at Sydney, NS. The agent could not provide details of whether this was part of the QA program or whether the review is specific to residency requirements.

I did have a lot of US travel stamps on my passport and my application included all details.

Has anyone else on these forums encountered a similar situation? I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or advice from senior members of this forum as well.

Thank you.

I am replying to my original post in the hope of a reply .. i am anxious to hear of anyone on these forums who has had a similar experience or advice from the experienced members on this forum.

I really appreciate your time

thank you

Only way you will know if its due to actual concerns or quality assurance is by obtaining your GCMS notes under the Access to Information (ATIP) request process available on CIC website. Even then the notes may have significant sections being redacted under exemption legislation if they reveal say any intelligence leads on file.

The referral to review at Sidney leads me to think its a QA thing - if it was a residency concern then it would be transferred to a Local Office. On the other hand it could be that Sidney do stage 1 of the review and then transfer to Local Office. Sidney can also ask you for documentation. This seems to support the theory that CIC are applying Citizenship application steps to PR Card renewal ostensibly to improve the process for both but likely read it will weed out those with residency issues early on.

Update : to help people in the same boat.

Even though we did not the exact date of entry and exit from and to Canada (via road), I still went ahead and applied for PR renewal on June 20. However, after initial approval my file was sent for further verification in Sydney, NS. We called every 2-3 weeks. In between, we also met an immigration lawyer to know where we stand.

Anyway the good news is after a lot of frustration and patience, my PR card renewal was approved on Nov 19 and obtained my card on Nov 25th.

Background - I was in Canada from 2002-2008 and became a PR in mid 2008 and left to US for my studies in 2009. Did visits to my university in Canada often (every 4 months or so) to finish my work. Then returned to Canada in 2012 and have been working in Canada since.

We would like to thanm Canada visa forums through which we obtained a great deal of info regarding PR renewal.

Congrats. Excel is a a useful tool to record your entries and exits. You can use it to calculate 'presence' and 'absence' days for future citizenship and or/PR Card renewal applications.

i just checked my status for PR renewal and it said it is under further review - what does that mean? I understand you had a similar case before last year - what happened?

i have a q few question:

1. did they send your application to local office?
2. what documents you originally sent with your application?
3. how many days were you out of canada when you sent your application?
4. do u have kids in school?

any tips or advise you can share with me?
