My child is a little bit more than 1 yr old, and we included him in our dependent when we filed the immigration application last yr. Now my hubby and I need to land before May (expiry date), but we do not want to take the child with us this time due to some personal reasons. What will happen if we don't take him with us at landing? Please note that he may not be able to land before the expiry date. Please help, thanks a lot!

'Accompanying dependents cannot land in Canada before the Principal Applicant has done so. The accompanying dependents may first land in Canada with the Principal Applicant or after the Principal Applicant, but in either case prior to the expiry date indicated on their Canada Immigration Visas.'

Thanks. But the above still does not answer my question. If my baby does not land before the expiry date, what will happen? He may lose his PR and we will need to apply for him later - which is for sure and it's ok. But will that affect my husband and my PR status?

If your child does not land before the PR visa expiry, he will not get PR. It will not affect your and your husbands status and you can sponsor your child for PR later.

However, keep in mind that as a PR, you must be residing in Canada in order to sponsor your child. If your child has a visa exempt passport, you can take him with as a visitor when you are ready to move to Canada. If he is not, it starts to get complicated. He would not be issued a TRV (visit visa) because immigration would say that your intention is for him to stay permanently and not to visit. It is possible that you could get another temporary visa for special circumstances called a TRP. This would allow you to take your son with you to Canada to sponsor him. If you can't get that visa, you or your husband would have to go to Canada without your son and reside in Canada without him until the sponsorship goes through. Depending where you are from, sponsoring a family member can take months or even more than a year.

Take the child with you when you land if at all possible. It will complicate your lives a great deal (as Leon has explained) if you don't.

Thanks a lot Leon. That is very clear. My baby is US citizen so should be visa exempt. Does that mean I don't need to sponsor him in the future for Canada PR?

No, you still need to sponsor him in the future for Canada PR.

leon is absolutely right, once he doesnt land in time befor ethe expiry, all the procedure need to begin, you can try as others did asking for a secom=nd medical and revalidate the visa. someone did it, but b=need to have sufficent reason for that, you can try, but the best is just to land get the pr approved and let him return, i guess you are from US, cross the border

You do need to sponsor him but at least you can bring him to Canada with you while you do it.

If you do not sponsor your child for PR, as a US citizen he may only stay as a visitor for up to 6 months and will not be covered by health care.
