Hi Guys,

Can someone guide me please. My husband is canadian and he sponsored me and now I have got Passport request.but right now we are residing in Dubai. I might have to fly soon to Canada before my medical expires. So, can I land there without my husband? Would there be any legal issue? And if I land can I come back in a week to wind up things in Dubai and then go back to Canada later? Would it affect my PR card? How would I land second time in Canada if they haven't mailed me Pr card?

You can land in Canada without your husband, no any issue you will clear immigration where PRC will be applied then you have to apply SIN and Health Card and I guess all cards you will receive in a month after that you can back to UAE and re-entry in Canada within 5 years PRC validity 5 years only. Trust all clear.

I am going to land in Canada soon. Can I get travel document (permanent resident abroad) ?
As I won't have my PR card because I have to leave soon. So, for entering again to Canada I would be needing this travel document.

Yes - you can apply for a TD. But only from outside of Canada.

The one thing I've heard mentioned is that you need the PR card to fly. The confirmation of PR paper that you get signed specifically says that it's not a travel document. Otherwise the other posters are correct, you can land without your partner and you do not have to stay a minimum time once you land (other than 3 of the next 5 years for citizenship). I wonder if you could have your PR card shipped to Dubai. I don't know if that is possible but then you'd have that as the travel document you need. I would call the call centre and ask if after you land in Canada you can get your PR card shipped to Dubai, that way you just need to wait on that before coming back to Canada (and no need to land officially a second time as you'd already be a permanent resident).

If you don't have a PR card you can apply for a Travel Document. A PR card is not mandatory.

No - you cannot ask CIC to mail your PR card outside of Canada.

Citizenship is 4 out of 6 years in Canada (not 3 out of 5).
