Hi,

I have a valid work permit but realized that my 6 year old child has to flagpole to get a valid visitor status.
When I renewed my work permit after a year I actually had to get him visitor permit, I didn't because I didn't know and now he should leave Canada and re-enter with his visa exempt passport to become a valid visitor.

I have three questions:

- I am in Alberta. Where can I flagpole? I know Vancouver is one option, but is there anywhere closer to Alberta?
There is CBSA office in the airport here too, isn't it possible to do this there without traveling to the US boarder?

- Second, I don't have a US visa but mu child is US citizen. So I cannot accompany him making the u-turn over US boarder.
Is it possible to send a friend with him to do so? I go with them to the boarder but I don't leave Canada and they do the flagpole, is that possible that a non-parent person does that for my child?

-Third, How long the flagpoling takes and what is the process?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Re: How to flagpole? Living in Alberta.

I'll help with one question.

You can only flagpole at a US/Canada land border. You cannot flagpole at an airport.

Thanks scylla for the reply.

Does anyone know, if the process is such that I can get my minor child flagpole without me entering US (without me leaving Canada), because I don't have US visa and don't want to get a refused entry status in my record.

I called the US Customes and Boarder Protection and they said that, although I don't have a US Visa I can accompany my child when he is flagpolling from Canada to US.

I am worried if this will have a negative effect on any future US visa application or my future PR application is Canada.

The question is, would flagpolling be considered as a refused entry to the US? and will it be recorded and could affect furure immigration or visa applications?

It is called an Administrative Refusal. It isn't a real refusal and doesn't need to be declared, so it will have no effect on future apps. You can confirm this with CBP when you are at the border.
