Why this gross generalization pickednotes?

Are you a physiotherapist. Care to share your experience?

@ vibbsfadn: Can you tell us more about yourself? Your qualifications, number of years of study and weather you have had your qualification assessed for Canada. I will be able to guide you further after you have provided this information.

Hi 9j

I am Physiotherapist bearing 4 years BS degree and recently put my application for the credentials qualification assessment to Alliance and have not received any response from them as yet.
Could you please guide me how to plan a career in Physiotherapy as a new landed immigrant.

Hi,

You have started on the right path. The best approach is to start the credential evaluation process well in advance of your arrival in Canada as the Alliance now have a massive backlog and it is taking up to 1 year to finalize the initial credential evaluation. That can be longer if you will need to complete additional courses to make up for shortfall if that is applicable to you. Once your complete your credential evaluation you will have to sit for the professional licensing exam (PCE) which is a 2 staged exam (written/MCQ and clinical exams). Once you pass this you will be able to apply for physiotherapy jobs. The good news is, jobs are still very much in high supply once you can cross the credentialing and exam bottle necks.

All the best

Hi yejydo,

I've been in and out of Canada a couple of times after my landing. The final move will be early next year by God's grace. The exam went well. Hoping for a positive news in a few weeks.

I think the prospect for settlement/transition jobs is good at least in Alberta that am familiar with. For those who have completed their credential evaluation, getting a PT/Rehab assistant jobs should be no problem.

How are things moving with your plans?

Dear 9j,

Nice to know that you went through exams, wish u all the best & good luck. Do you mind sharing your experience with preparation and exams. I am a bit confuse about preparation, syllabus is quite lengthy and selection of books is problamatic. You are now our senior fellow and can now guide us very well about exam and selection of books.
I have also applied with Alliance & just come to know after sending enquiry via email that they have received documents from my universities. What do you think normally this gona take more?
Secondly do you think they can ask me for deficiency courses etc? (I did BS physio from Pakistan and MSc physio from Cardiff, UK).

Thanks and kindest regards,

Hi,

It is very difficult to say specifically what the outcome of individual credential evaluation would be as I am not privy to the content of your academic studies. I can only assume your completion of the Masters programme would help. That is assuming your undergrad study will not meet the requirement. I hope you included documentations for both studies with your applications to the Alliance as that will save you a lot of time later. Currently, it is taking up to 1 year for the Alliance to complete the initial evaluation after all the necessary documents have been received. This period can be longer if other documentations/clarifications are required at later stage or if you will have to complete PLAR programme to meet deficiencies in your programme. That is if it is applicable to you.

Re preparing for the exam: I personally believe it may be a bit early for that now as you are in the early stage of the credentialing process. Whenever you are ready, I will recommend these 2 preparatory books: NPTE prep books by O'Sullivan. You can purchase it from here http://www.therapyed.com/ptmain.htm Also ScoreBuilders Prep book. You can buy it from here http://www.scorebuilders.com/ These two book are good prep books as they give you exam oriented study guides, academic contents and 3 practice exams (600 questions) each. For references, you can make use of well known books like the big red Physical rehabillitation book by O'Sullivan. Orthopaedics by Maggie and Therapeutic Exercises by Kisner.

I hope this helps.

All the best

Thanks 9J for this information.
Yes! I did send them documents of both universities from UK and Pak and they have acknowledged the receipt from the Uni's as well. So lets hope as you said one more year.

Thank you to 9J for the reply.
So sorry for the delay in replying to you.

My wife is a physio and working for the past 6 / 7 years as a Physiotherapist. Apart from that she's on her way to get qualified as a Clinical Hypnotherapist as well.

We are expecting our passports back after stamping in this month God willing and plan to land in May for the initial formalities.

Regards

Vibbs
