Hello everyone:

I am applying for PR through spouse sponsorship and yes, I am the one who is being sponsored. I am not sure if the following documents need to be in original or photocopied version - so I hope someone could help clarify this for me :)

For the part it asks for documents for the applicant and his or her dependent children, do these documents need to be in original or photocopied form?
- passport pages
- indication of status in canada (e.g., study permit)
- birth certificate for you
- proof of medical examination

Sorry if this sounds like a silly question, but I want to make sure I don't make any mistake with the application. :-X
Thank you so much!

Normally:

Passport pages - copies until the request the original PP
Study permit etc - copy
Birth certificate - copy
Proof of medical - Original part of form given to you by DMP, do NOT copy this, they must receive the one the doctor gives you.

BUT:

Double check your region specific guide and applicant checklist whenever you are not sure what is to be copied or what must be submitted in original format.

Ditto as CharlieD.

The following three documents MUST be originals:

  • Police Records
  • Clearance or Certificate of No Information Record
  • Medical Report Section A as provided by Medical examiner!!

The other supporting documents should be photocopied (clear and legible), they may request originals later if necessary. Don't forget to translate any Non-English/French documents!

And, like CharlieD said, check your region's guide for exceptions!!!

Good luck!

In addition to checking the guide, it's a good idea to ask others processing from that office if originals are routinely requested... Providing originals before they are requested can help your application get through that much faster

The photocopies of my birth certificate and the marriage certificates were not too clear. So I just went ahead and included the originals too. My application hasnt reached Mississauga yet, so I have no idea what's in store. Just hoping for the best. Good luck everyone! :)
