Pharmacy OSCE Exam By PEBC, Blocking Canadians in Contibuting Canadian Economy

Importance of Pharmacists and Hurdles in their Registration

In view of president Trump statement that USA will allow import of Pharmaceuticals from Canada, indicate the importance of presence of sufficient number of Pharmacists and Pharmaceutical Industry in Canada.

So there is need that Canadian Government and agencies should remove the hurdles and barriers in the way of Pharmacists getting their registration in Canada, so they can play their role in the economy and health sector of Canada.

Validity of Final Registration OSCE Exam:

Destruction of Immigrant Pharmacist carrier by OSCE exam clearly indicates that immigrant Pharmacist are not getting level playing field in contributing social and economic life of Canada.

As immigrant Pharmacist have Pharmacy educations which have origin in the British education and language system which is different from North American system, that is why PEBC is unable to understand the competitiveness and abilities of these immigrant Pharmacists, and due to this professional carrier of these Pharmacist is being destroyed by OSCE exam, OSCE exam could not be used to determine the Competitiveness of candidates who are coming from different educational systems and environments, in facts validity of OSCE exam is already questionable, because already registered Pharmacist are of the view that they are finding very hard to understand what PEBC wants from this OSCE exam, and even those who passed the exam after multiple attempts are sometime surprised as their previous exam performance was better in which they were failed as compared to exam in which they passed.

Moreover by allowing only four (4) attempts to pass exam and on other hand by giving no clear picture and goal of exam, and using an exam which even few years before was not a standard practice , and exam in which candidates are failed due to difference of just decimal place in score with other students, and candidates are failed even if he or she passed 11 OSCE stations out of 12 OSCE stations, and her/his professional life and years of education are ended and wasted due to not passing one station with decimal score difference, therefore it is becoming very hard for immigrant Pharmacists to pass this exam, due to which even after passing all exams there is no guarantee that immigrants will be able to get their registration.

This practice is also not in line with the basic practice of Federal and Provincial governments, who always advocate and demand contribution in economy and participation in social life, and who never bar or prevent anyone from multiple attempts for getting registration and further education due to age or any other reasons or problems.

Pharmacist and Society:

Presence of Pharmacists in a society increases the standard of quality of life and help in health promotion. and is a profession which can affect the economy of a nation very significantly.

So it is requested from Federal Health Ministry, Provincial Health ministries, Health Canada and other government agencies to look in this dilemma and sorrowful situation due to which huge number of immigrant Pharmacists are being denied to register and work as Pharmacist in Canada., and to persuade PEBC to adopt policies and procedures by which immigrant Pharmacists can play their important and significant role in economy, health and social life of Canada, because persuading to not follow their profession and diverting to them to do odd jobs by any means is not in the interest of Canada or anyone else.

There are thousands of internationally trained pharmacists who are now working in Canada. So much so that there is a surplus of pharmacists and that there has been a significant reduction in salaries for phamacists in most areas. Canada has set a certain standard for their pharmacists. After attending the exams one timd you should be familiar with what the format of the exams will be and what is expected of you. Canada doesn't have a system of backlogs. 4 chances is a large amount of chances. Immigration is a choice and a risk. There are other jobs available in Canada or you can always return home to practice pharmacy at home. The US is also not going to start importing all their medications through Canada. This seems like more of a personal issue. If anything Canada needs to stop more pharamcists from immigrating given the state of the profession.

Not sure what the purpose of your post is.

I don't think you'll find Bernie at the head of a movement to generate more pharmacist jobs in Canada.
Four chances is excessive. Other professions don't have, "only" four chances. In addition, a pharmacist ready to forget a decimal point is no pharmacist I want to deal with. These folks are supposed to be trained already!

In the process of registration as Pharmacist., Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC), tries and makes each and every efforts to not allow immigrants Pharmacists to register as Pharmacists, that is why almost 50 % immigrants Pharmacist are not allowed to become pharmacists, by creating confusion and ambiguity about exams course materials.
To counter this, and to avoid conflict of interest.
1) All exams by PEBC should be machine and computer based, and there should not be any personnel or human involvement in registration exams, like OSCE exam should be removed as a requirement for registration, hundreds of immigrants Pharmacists were refused to practice as Pharmacists in Canada (due to this personnel interactive exam), who passed all other knowledge and competency based exams.
2) To encourage immigrants Pharmacists to work as Pharmacists and to improve and develop , there should not be any limit of attempts for any unsuccessful exam if they have passed at least 2 other exams for registration. as per the Charter of rights, and doors of development and getting registration should not be closed.
3) Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada, should be supervised by who do not have conflict of interest , (like already registered Pharmacists could have conflict of interest by blocking new registrants Pharmacists from entering in their field).
4) All Pharmacists who were denied registration by PEBC, should be allowed to develop and to go for exams as many time as possible until they become successful in their exams, doors of development, self improvement and education should not be closed for any one on the basis of number of limits, age, or any other red tap or bureaucratic reason ,
By taking above hundreds of deserving Pharmacist will be available to work in health care and industry and that will be having a very good impact on Canadian Economy like Pharmaceutical, and Health care industry.

Thanks.
