Hello,

My PGWP expired on july 30th and i am currently out of canada.
I do have a new employer with arranged start date of work of 8th of AUG.
Since i am outside of canada, i am afraid i am not able to return until my application is approved.
I am wondering if i can apply for ETA, and fill out the extension after arriving, as if i was in canada with visitor status. it might be better for me do so.
But i am also unsure of restoring status part.

Does any one have any clue on my situation?

As long as you are from a country where you qualify for the eTA, you can certainly apply for one and travel to Canada based on the eTA.

IRCC hasn't announced the details for the PGWP extension process. So it's difficult to comment on the rest.

I saw this quote on the policy update page. New measures for foreign nationals with expired or expiring post-graduation work permits and applicants to the temporary resident to permanent resident pathways - Canada.ca

"If you have a valid temporary resident visa, but are currently outside Canada, it is possible to come back to Canada and be authorized to work. However, the interim work authorization email notice can’t, by itself, be used to return to Canada.".

does ETA count as "temporary resident visa"?

Hey, TRV is only needed by citizens from countries that are required to have TRV's to board the plane to come to Canada. You can apply for an ETA, since that is the only need to thing you need to board the plane. NO TRV required.

Ah - I didn't see this yet.

Based on how I read this - you can definitely return to Canada on an eTA. You'll need to wait until you have recieved the interim authorization to be able to work. You won't be able to work before then.

Restoration doesn't apply to you since you are no longer in Canada.

That's how I understand it based on my reading of what's been published. I would apply for the extension asap. I don't know if the interim email is sent quickly or takes a while.

Do you think it's also a viable option for me to arrive with Eta and then apply the extension inside the Canada?

I would think so. But I can't tell you that for sure.

Thank you, if i take this route does restoration of status come in the way?? Sorry for many questions.
Restoration would only apply if you had remained in Canada and let your status expire. So no.

In this webpage, "You are eligible to apply from abroad if you have left Canada and return after you have been approved". Does this mean I'm not able to comeback If i apply the extension before i arrive unless I get extension approved?
