Hi Guys, CIC website shows :

A work permit under the PGWPP may be issued for the length of the study program, up to a maximum of three years. A post-graduation work permit cannot be valid for longer than the student’s study program, and the study program must be a minimum of eight months in length. For example, if you graduate from a four-year degree program, you could be eligible for a three-year work permit if you meet the criteria. If you graduate from an eight-month certificate program, you would be eligible for a work permit that is valid for no more than eight months.

However, I was under a belief if I do a 2 year course, I would get 3 yr work permit.

Does anyone know if its a recent change ?

No - there have been no changes.

Thanks Aman. I was a bit worried about this ... the official length of the course is still not known to me.
Do you know how do they have the semesters ? are they continous ? September, January, May and September ?
Or are there some breaks too ?Also is it possible to complete the studies sooner , like taking more modules in a semester and completing 4 semester course in just 3 semesters or lesser ?
If it is possible, then what would be taken as the length of our program ? And will it effect the duration of PGWP ?
I am particularly talking of IT Solutions course from Humber.. could you pls help if you got any views?

I think some ppl who did 16 months have gotten 16 months PGWP....don't take my word for it search it!!
Why don't you make it 5 semesters? Take less courses once you complete two semesters which will surely make it 2 years!

I guess you have to read the description of your program and see what's the official length indicated there. I saw some one-year programs that had official length of 45 weeks, seems like people doing such program would get less than a year on PGWP. If the official length of a program is 16 months then one could get a 16-month PGWP. I am doing a 2-year program and actually worried if it's going to get me a 3-year work permit or not. But the official length of my program is 2 years. If you have doubts about your PGWP length, ask somebody who did that exact program at your college.

yes orange girl...that's what I am trying to find out.. but no one has replied back yet...the program inam going for .. shows the length as just 4 semesters... I wonder what it actually wud lead to ... I request u guys to pls reply if you have some related knowledge.

I had same query...but I managed to get answers from deep forum and my consultant based in Canada.

If your course is 2 year, regardless of when you completing then you will get 3 years PGWP. It is best if get an official letter from college when you complete course to prove the duration.
