PGWP and Canadian experience class

Hi, Senior members

Kindly help me with your valuable inputs and experiences.

My Details are as under...

Education previous: Under graduate ( B.Tech Computer Science) 2012.
Current (CANADA) : Undergoing One Year P.G. Certificate in System Security Analysis at Toronto
Jan 2016 to Dec.2016 ( 11 month study period)
Study permit validity: Jan 2016 to March 16 2017. That is 11+3 = 14 months

Work Experience: 3.5 years in India.

You can see that I am eligible to get 11 month PGWP since my study duration is 11 month.

My question is...

1. Supposing to obtain a permanent job offer immediately after completing my study there, I can work for about 13 to 14 months ( am I correct ?) including 2-3 months in study permit + 11 months PGWP
to be eligible to be 'Canadian Experience Class' ??

2. Is PGWP is issued for 11 months from the date of completion of study period (16th Dec.2016) OR from the date of expiry of study permit March 16th 2017 ??

3. I understand from this forum, on applying for a PGWP, it takes about 3 months to process the PGWP permit. If so, the validity of the PGWP starts from the date of issue of of this PGWP after 2-3 months??

4. What are the options for me to obtain a PR Ontario??

Many Thanks for your precious time.....

Best Regards[/color]

1. Yes! After completing school you can work full time while waiting for your PGWP. Unfortunately, CIC does not recognize the work during PG transition from Off Campus WP to PGWP for immigration.

2. PGWP is based on your credit hours. One full study semester gives you 6 months of work permit. It looks like you are enrolled into a program with 3 semester that will give you 18 month WP. If last semester is co-op then you'll get 12 month WP because only study semester counts.

3. Yes! The work permit will be valid for 12/18 months from the issuance date.

4. You either develop a sure-shot plan on how to get a job upon course completion or take another 1 year course which will give you 3 year WP and will eventually improve your prospects for PR.

Many Many Thanks softfuel12.

I was worried but relieved a bit knowing PGWP duration is based on semesters.

You guessed it right: it is a 3 semester program and there is no co-op.

But what I read from CIC site is the duration of PGWP is equal to duration of program? It does not mention anything about semesters? I believe you wrote it from your experience? I appreciate if you can suggest me some authentic LINKS to read this rule and ease my worries....

Do anybody else had the same case?? Appreciate if you share.

Many Thanks once again

Kind Regards

I myself did three semester program and got 18 months WP. You study in Canada, based on academic year (1 Academic year = 8 months) and you get work permit based on calendar year (12 months). So, 1.5 academic year you'll get 1.5 calendar year worth WP.

Thank you once again for responding to my concerns.

On searching this FORM elsewhere, many have different experiences on the PGWP duration with the same 3 semester programs. Even, I read that student from the same batch (program) received two different PGWP duration (some one year others 16 months etc)!

What do you think the reason? Is it the detailing in the application while we file it ?

Do we have to put a separate letter explaining the program length as tree semesters?

An experienced immigration attorney can get the most beneficial result (maximum PGWP duration)??

Best Regards

I will tell you how everyone gets different PGWPs:

1. Majority completes three semester program and obtain 18 months work permit and never comes to this forum.
2. Some people enrolled in three semester program does not have satisfactory attendance to support that they have studied full three semester. As a result, gets 12 month work permit.
3. Some people completes three semester program with final semester being internship/co-op and expect 18 month work permit. They will get 12 month work permit.

Maybe it's your program. If I may ask your college and program I'd be in a better position to help.
