Hello,

Does taking an approved medical leave during your graduate study makes you ineligible for PGWP later? The wording on CIC website is unclear. It is very important for us to know. Would taking a medical leave invalidate a study permit and would it affect PGWP?

Thank you for any information.

Yes - taking approved medical leave during graduate studies may result in a refusal of the PGWP. Studies are required to be continuous for the PGWP to be approved. An officer may decide to make an exception and approve the PGWP all the day - but it's a dice roll and there's no way to know what the outcome will be in advance.

Thank you. This honestly makes no sense; if the university says that the student is on approved leave and if you are an excellent student I don't understand this. Are there any rules on what makes them give you PGWP and what not? In any case, thank fro a reply.
