Hi,

I recently completed a 16 month program which is technically two academic years (8 months for a typical academic year x 2) but we didn't take any time off. I wanted to see if anyone with actual experience applying for PGWP after completing such a program and the length of their PGWP? I have seen previous posts about this but there doesn't seem to be a consensus and I might have missed some posts since the search function on this forum isn't that great. Some folks said it depends on the officer processing the permit. Is there any additional evidence or explanation that I can attach to increase the odds of getting a 3 year work permit? Thanks in advance for any insights!

I think you should look at the official length of your program of study. If it was 2 years or more, you will get 3 years work permit.

Thanks. Looks like it all depends on the processing officer. I talked to some previous graduates from my program and they received a 3 year PGWP even though it is likely considered to be considered 2 academic years (16 months or 4 full time semesters.) It is confusing because other programs are two years only because they take the summer terms off.

I also wanted to confirm if a 4 semesters(16 months) program qualify for a 3 years PGWP period. I think it is because in the college's website says 2 year program, even though it is less than 24 months.

I wanted to update folks since this thread was active again. I received a 3 year PGWP after completing my program in 16 months. Hope this helps others in a similar situation.

Hey man, congratulations, 3 years is exact 36 months?

I will apply for a 2 years program (3 semesters of class + 1 semester of co-op)
