PGWP is pending and I have IRCC confirmation that I’m allowed to work under maintained status until end of March. However, my SIN has expired. I’m in the hiring process for a Coordinator role at a large firm. I know I can’t actually start without a valid SIN, but do employers usually wait or give a conditional offer in situations like this? Anyone been through this with a corporate employer?

This comes up more often than you’d think. Big firms usually care about compliance, but they’re also used to immigration timelines. Many will extend a conditional offer and set your start date for when your SIN is reactivated, especially if you can show IRCC confirmation of maintained status. What they usually won’t do is let you actually work or onboard without a valid SIN in payroll. Being upfront with HR early helps a lot. I’ve seen people in similar situations get delayed start dates rather than losing the offer altogether.

How have you seen people in similar situations get delayed start dates?
