Without closing H&C to parents and reducing length of visit on supervisas Canada is going to end up with a lot of seniors with no status in Canada. They will need to attempt to deport these seniors and there will be a lot of unpaid hospitals bills. Feasibility of PGP should have been examined a long time ago given our HC crisis and our lack of capacity to absorb more seniors. Before people accuse me of something many of the seniors who are currently struggling to access services immigrated to Canada and have lived and worked/paid taxes in Canada for decades. We didn’t have the capacity to increase PGP numbers for the past 5-10 years. The program in general had not been feasible for quite some time given lack of HC capacity. The government should be upfront that parent sponsorship is not guaranteed and that should be a consideration when immigrating to Canada.

People will be angry but if you work in HC you’ve questioned how we could still offer this pathway for at least a decade. There was never the extra capacity in the HC system to absorb more seniors especially as the baby boomers retired. I have tried to get the media and politicians to question whether this program is actually feasible for almost a decade and nobody dares talk about PGP. Think the minister in incompetent but someone is starting to make some tough but data driven choices. H&C reform and supervisa visit length need to also be addressed. Canada also needs to be upfront that parent sponsorship is likely not going to be possible and should be a consideration for anyone wanting to immigrate to Canada.

I can feel the proverbial pearl clutching, people gasping in disbelief and the furious tapping on keyboards as I type this

People gotta get with the program . If you can’t live your life without having your parents live here with you, then maybe it’s time to explore moving back to be with them

It was never promised you’d be able to

If I had to live with my 91 year old father , I’d have to be committed

As I side note I ended up in an ER room in west end Toronto couple weeks ago
Kid you not, half of the people there were seniors with their translators with them
