LANDED..........
Mar 13, 2018
Hi everyone, after over 2 years, i got confirmation that my mom will get her PR. She is coming back to Canada this weekend as she was visiting my sister in the US.

So i have been advised that I can use the online portal to confirm her landing.

My question is more on the health side. we had a scare in the US where my sister had to take her to emergency room due to extremely low blood sugar which caused her to pass out. How will the healthcare work? Will ohip cover hospital visits? do i still need to buy insurance as she will be here for 6-8 weeks.

Please any info is helpful and appreciated.

Your best bet is to get travel insurance.

OHIP does provide some reimbursement for emergency medical services outside Canada, but the amounts are extremely limited and will not come close to covering typical international healthcare costs. Sounds like your mom hasn't even landed in Canada so her ohip is not even active until landing is confirmed.

Until she has formally landed she doesn’t qualify for OHIP. You would be expected to pay for any hospital visit. Given her recent trip to the ER anything related to blood sugar may no longer be covered under travel insurance. It is still advisable to purchase travel health insurance for any other medical issues until she is a PR and can obtain OHIP.

Come on

Don’t be lazy. That’s an easy Google

You’ve had years to see how OHIP works and what is required

And also what is not covered and you’re responsible for
