Hello everyone,
Does anyone know/hear anything about the PGP for 2022?
It has been a while since they last did the lucky draw. Moreoever, recently, IRCC annouced the extension of the Super Visa (can stay longer than 2 years at a time)
Any speculation is welcome!

Still hasn’t been a year since the last draw and there is a huge backlog of applications for all forms of visa and permits. The fact that they increased supervisa length is an indication that they may be delaying PGP In my opinion but we’ll have to wait and see. Will also likely depend on how bad BA4/5 wave that will hit soon is going to be. All the news about our healthcare system being in very rough shape makes accepting more seniors less palatable to most Canadians. Headlines like millions of BC residents don’t have a family doctor but we’ll be accepting around 40k more seniors for PR won’t go over well. IRCC may also be actually changing the program which was set to happen in 2020 but Covid hit.

I have no problem paying insurance for a super visa, however, those are for emergency medicals, no comparison to MSP coverage

Very true but if there was insurance coverage for healthcare in general it would be very expensive and would place too much strain on the healthcare system. people already complain about the cost of supervisa insurance. The healthcare system is supposed to prioritize care of people with provincial healthcare so if you had lots of seniors with comprehensive healthcare coverage how would they be prioritized to access care? Technically they should only be treated or seen after anyone with provincial healthcare was treated first.

I have a query with regards to the pgp program. I intend to apply for my parents in the next pool but am unsure on the 3 taxation years. I meet taxation for 2020, 2021 and will comfortably do so for 2022 so will I be meeting the MNI for 22, 21, 20 or 21,20,19 for this intake (PS: I did not meet MNI for 2019).

If rules don’t change and it is announced it would be for 2021, 2020 and 2019. 2022 could not be included because you don’t have NOA until next year.

FYI - For the 2021 Parents and Grandparents program, we’ll assess sponsors on their income for tax years 2020, 2019 and 2018.

AOR Received.
waiting..
So, since I applied to sponsor my parents in 2020, I have a chance to be invited this time. Question though, for taxation years. Do we have to provide 2021 taxation year as well? Or just from 2017-2020? Thanks

2019 to 2021. Below is an excerpt from the notice they announced yesterday

Recognizing that many potential sponsors may have experienced financial difficulties in recent years because of the pandemic, IRCC will once again use a lower income requirement for the sponsorship of parents and grandparents. For the 2020 and 2021 tax years, the income requirement for sponsors will be the minimum necessary income, instead of the minimum necessary income plus 30%, and regular Employment Insurance benefits and temporary COVID-19 benefits (such as the Canada Emergency Response Benefit) will be allowed to be included toward the sponsor’s income. These measures will ensure that sponsors and applicants are not unfairly penalized for a temporary loss of a sponsor’s income during the pandemic.

You will need to meet LICO for 2021 to qualify.
