hello all :D

I am currently in the process of completing all the necessary forms to apply for a family class (common-law partner) sponsorship for permanent residency in Canada. I would be grateful if you could help me with the following questions:

1) I am Italian but currently working in France, is it correct to me to have put the Rome visa office as the office that's going to treat my application?

2) As stated in the immigration guide:

"A permanent resident visa is issued for a period not exceeding the earliest expiry date of the following documents:

• the medical results for you and your family members or

• your or your family members’ passport."

From my understanding I have to take my medical examination before I send my application, and include the relevant form signed by the DMP. Now, i plan on taking the examination and sending my full application to be submitted by my sponsor in January 2012. If I get accepted before the 12 month validity of the medical examination expires (say after 11 months), does that mean I have to fully emigrate within that last month? That seems quite difficult since I need time to find a job and quit my current one.

I'm probably being too optimistic with regards to the 11 months, I guess it's probably going to be more than 12 months and I will then renew my medical examination with extended validity....

I would really appreciate any help

Thanks! 8)

I'm not sure what you mean by "fully emigrate". If you mean, do you have to use the visa and land in Canada before it expires, even if they only make it valid for a month because that is all you have left on your medical validity, then yes, you MUST land before the visa expires.

This does not mean that you are obliged to remain in Canada immediately. You can then go back home, clear up and finalize any remaining business and then return to Canada to settle once you are ready. Ensure someone trustworthy is available at the address you give on landing, so that they can receive your PR card and send it to you. If you are ready to return to Canada before the PR card is ready, you apply for a travel document from the Canadian embassy.

Thanks a lot! So if I understand correctly I could go to Canada just to validate my Visa, then come back to finish off work (say 6 months) and then enter Canada with my PR resident card (which i will have my sponsor send to me when it arrives to our address in Canada).

Am I correct in saying this?

Oh and if my medical examination expires before i get my visa, do I have to then take another examination?

thanks! 8)

You are not validating your visa, you are landing (the visa is cancelled when you land).
You keep a copy (part) of your COPR and your PR card is sent to the Address in Canada that you specify when you land.

The medical may be extended, but in many cases you have to take another medical.
Be aware that your visa will only be valid for one year from the date that you took your medical.
