I have to say that I'm concerned about the direction of the US and am exploring the option of moving to Canada. As I am semi-retired and my wife is an artist, what are our chances of having a "Plan B" if things get worse?

Pretty much zero. Canada's economic immigration streams are geared towards younger skilled workers.

If you have children who are Canadians and living in Canada (and who make sufficient income) - they may be able to sponsor you for permanent residency.

Otherwise as stated above, the chances are pretty much nil unfortunately. You'll have to be satisfied with visiting as tourists from time to time.

Given the way things are going, you may be able to claim refugee status in Europe soon. I wish I was joking but....
