Hi,

I am currently a student in US. I am doing my 5 years Phd. I want to settle in Canada considering the health benefits they give and other opportunities.

I just wanted to know about the points system they use to check my eligibility.

My credentials:

I am 26 years old. I have studied in UK and in US for 5 years. I have also completed my IELTS with my score as 7.5/9. I do not have work experience. However, I have completed 4-5 internships (3-4 months long). I cannot speak French. I am not intending to take my spouse in Canada (I am not married).

I am really interested in going to that country. I would really appreciate if I can get the help I need. I still have plenty of time to apply as I am in 5 years Phd programme and this is my first semester. My Phd will finish in 2019.

Canada has a number of different immigration programs. If you are serious about applying then you will have to spend time researching each program or alternatively hire an immigration lawyer to do this on your behalf. Typically it is difficult / impossible to immigrate without at least one year of full time work experience or a full time job offer in Canada. Note that these programs change from year to year - so the criteria and points required to apply now will likely not be exactly the same as the criteria when you are ready to apply. Five years in advance is too far ahead to apply since once you are approved you will have to spend 2 out of every 5 years in Canada to maintain your status. If you are finishing school in 2019, then 2018 would be a good time to apply.
