Hi my husband is a British citizen and was granted PR in 2006...in September 2010 we went back to UK together and didn't PLAN to stay long however I returned to canada when my marital visa expired in February this year and he joined me in canada in October. My husband entered canada on a holiday visa as his PR Card expired in July 2011...customs stamped his leave date February instead of six months....what should we do about the visa? From the info I've gathered on here, he is still a PR so will he be able to look for employment in canada again now he is here? He is a few weeks short of the 730 days but the more days we gain, the more we lose on the other side of five years if you get me?!? I heard that maybe as his spouse and a canadian citizen that the days we were outside of canada together can count towards the obligations? He renewed his bc drivers license before leaving but would like a care card and wonder if his social insurance is still valid? Thanks and sorry for the long post :)

Why did your husband not present himself to immigration as a PR and show his expired card? He would have been allowed to enter and not as a visitor. In any case, he will not be kicked out in February as he is a PR.

His days spent with a Canadian spouse abroad count as days in Canada towards the PR residency obligation. He can apply to renew his PR card now. His SIN should still be valid. He can apply for BC health care if he wants to but they may complain that his PR card is expired.

Hi

We are landing in Canada in July 2014. I read we have to stay 730 days for the next 5 years. As sson as we land we will apply for PR card. My question is till we get PR card is our stay counted as half day or full day?

regards

Once you are landed, all days are counted in whole days. Your PR card may be delayed arriving but this does not matter.

There are no half days for PR. When you land, you become a PR. Any day or part of a day you spend in Canada after that counts as a full day in Canada.

You must spend at least 730 days in Canada in your first 5 years as a PR, unrelated to when your PR card is issued or expires.

After the first 5 years, you must always have at least 730 days in Canada in the past 5 years. That means that time spent more than 5 years ago is no longer counted and must be replaced with new days spent in Canada.

Hi

I have been asked to submit passport and bank draft for right of PR fees in CAD. Do you know where i can get a bank draft in CAD done in Abu Dhabi?

I believe Al Fardan exchange used to do it but they stopped now.

Please request this information from those who have got a bank draft for Canadadone in the last few months in abu dhabi?

I think that you posted this in the wrong thread.. Your question has nothing to do with the thread topic. You are unlikely to find answers here.

We finished our landing yesterday. While we were going through the process at the border the Canadian Immigration officer said to keep our PR status valid we must reside 2 years in Canada in the next 5 years. I was under the impression that the obligation is 3 years in first 5 years. I am asking in this forum is it 2 years or 3 years?

First, you must understand that the PR card expiry has nothing to do with the Residency Obligations.
If you have spent more than 1095 days outside Canada since the day you "landed" as a PR (or within the last 1825 days if you "landed" more than 1825 days ago), you are at risk of being reported on entry for not meeting the Residency Obligations.

Simply put, it's 2 years.
