Hello everyone! My wife is in the process of a PR application, with myself (Canadian Citizen) as the sponsor. Today, both of us received an email welcoming us to the Permanent Residence Confirmation portal process. However, I found it very odd that I received this email. In the attached PDF on my email, it even references that my application for permanent residence is now ready for finalization, and refers to me as the principal applicant. My wife received the same email, with the same PDF, etc.
So, my question is, is it normal for the sponsor to receive this email? Should I respond to my email, ignore it? Or is there a different action I should take? Thank you.

Hi there,

I have heard of a few people facing the same thing with IRCC sending the first PR portal email to both the sponsor and PA. In my case, it was only the sponsor who got the email (not me, the PA). Some people think there may be a glitch the the IRCC system.

In your case, you can just reply to IRCC from the PA’s email. You guys should be fine.

let me know if you have more questions.

Do not attempt to use the email or the portal link you received to complete the permanent residence confirmation. This email was not intended for you. It is advisable to inform IRCC of the error. You can do this through the IRCC Webform, explaining that you are the sponsor and incorrectly received the Permanent Residence Confirmation Portal email meant for the principal applicant, noting that it incorrectly identified you as the principal applicant.

Proceed with the instructions in the email received. This email is intended for you to finalize your permanent residence. Access the PR Confirmation Portal using the provided link and information and complete the required steps.

Like Abhinav said, you could reach out to IRCC and let them know about the issue. That’s probably the correct way to do it.

In my case, I did not reach out to them (maybe I could have or should have). I simply replied to the P1 email from my sponsor’s email because she was the one that go the email (not me even though I’m the PA). Then, the following day IRCC sent the P2 email to my email (the correct email address). I accessed the portal, and all the information in there was about me (the PA).
