Hi there! I have a question pertaining to the minimum 730 days one must be in Canada every 5 years to maintain their PR status. How stringent is this requirement? How does Canadian immigration know how many days someone has truly been in Canada and would one be penalized (PR revoked) if they don’t manage to meet the 730 days?

Yes, it's stringent. IRCC has a number of ways to assess how many days you've been in Canada, including having access to airline flight manifests and border crossing records. Ultimately it is up to you, as the applicant, to prove you have at least 730 days.
If you apply to renew your PR card without meeting the 730 days, then yes, that can trigger a refusal and start the process for your PR status to be revoked.
730 days required out of FIVE years is ridiculously low, almost laughable . Yes, probably one of the reasons they are so stringent/ strict is how low the bar on residency has been set by the Government .
PRs who don't meet the 730 should not apply for PR card renewal before they stay long enough in Canada to meet this requirement.
IRCC have many ways to check your days inside or outside. And lying will result in misrepresentation and will have serious consequences.
And it's not every 5 years...it's a rolling 5 year period after the initial 5 years of permenent residency. So it's 730 days at any point after the first 5 years.
