Dear All,
I was granted SW-1 (Student) visa on 25-04-2013 to study PhD Computer Science for 4.5 years. I resumed studies in September, 2013 and just concluded my Fall session. At the port of entry, the immigration officer issued to me a study permit with an option of work if approved. My investigation reveals to me that this study permit is different from the usual one offered to people with S-1 student category.
From the CIC website and other reliable sources of information, I discovered my visa category gives me a privilege of Permanent Residency (PR). A proof of PR status will reduce my tuition by half, thus granting me money to pay rent and live with little or no worry. I have only been granted letter of introduction but not confirmation of permanent residence document.
Hence, I will like to know if I am eligible to apply for a PR card giving my visa category and study permit.
Thanks in anticipation of your professional advice.
