Hello,

I just called CIC and agent told me your PCC has to be three months old or lesser. I've been hearing from everyone that you don't need to get a new one if you never visited your country since you got your PCC. I've my PCC from 21st Nov 2014 and I'm full ready to submit documents now do I have to get a new one?

I will miss the deadline if I apply for another PCC.

Worried now, Please advise

Thanks much,

Vinesh

I suggest that you apply for a new PCC asap
Becuase ITA's are not easy to come by I suggest you submit the PCC which you have supported with a detailed LOE
Update your application as soon as you receive the new PCC by submitting a CSE
I hope this helps

But what CIC website says is different. I don't know what do they mean by For countries where you have lived for six months or more, the police certificate must be issued after the last time you lived in that country ??

I never visited my country from three years still agent said this.

I understand your plight, the explanation on the website says that you need the PCC for the last time you lived in the country but when you think of it, it is possible to have been sentenced for a crime even after you have left a country i.e if you had pending conviction.

Like I previously said it is much safer to apply for a new PCC

I would say you are ready to go. there is really no big gap between Nov 21st and Dec 04 and during this period, you had not visited your country. I did the same thing. my PCC was issued in Oct 28, 2015, and submitted in Nov 12, 2015. hope it would help you.

Thanks much,

Vinesh

Technically PCCs are true only of the date they are issued, and they do not have a validity or expiry as such. PCC basically means that on the date it was issued, there were no known criminal charges against you. This is why CIC asks for a recent PCC. Because between Nov 2014 and Nov 2015, technically there could be a new case registered against you.

The general practice is to submit a PCC issued within last 3-6 months time frame.

Does it have to be coming from Indian embassy of Canada as I am in Canada now or I can ask my dad to apply in India to get PCC which can be faster?

My condition is I got my ITA on 13th Nov and I want to submit docs at earliest. Even though if I apply for PCC it will take my passport and I have my tickets booked travelling to India on 24th Dec.

Getting from India can be faster but still have to check when my dad visits police station

Thanks,
Vinesh

The CIC call centre is usually wrong, as they were to tell you PCCs are only valid for 3 months. The website has the correct rules. If you haven't been back to your country since the PCC was issued, you are not required to get a new one.

CIC instructions clearly state that
For countries where you have lived for six months or more, the police certificate must be issued after the last time you lived in that country.
(source htt p://ww w.cic.g c.ca/english/infORmation/security/police-cert/intro.asp)

So I think you're good go, since CIC doesn't ask the PCC to be within a certain date as long as you received the PCC after leaving the country.

You are in a tricky situation. I recommend get all the documents ready, go to India and get the pcc from India yourself before you land in Canada in January.

For Indians living abroad, the PCC has to be issued by the local consulate general. Check with the Indian consulate here. When I applied for PR, I was living in Germany, and it was pretty simple to get the PCC from consulate general. in fact they issued me a PCC same day while in India it can take months.
