Hi all,

I have received ITA for Express Entry. I had also applied under FSW 2014. I had a question to the forum members. Can I re-use the Police Clearance Certificate (for India) that I obtained (in Aug 2014) for FSW 2014 for the current Express Entry program.

Thanks in advance,
Bala

Who needs a police certificate?
In general, you and all the people in your family who are 18 or older need to get a police certificate. You must get one from each country or territory where you have lived for six or more months in a row since the age of 18.

The certificate must be issued no more than three months before you apply.

If your certificate is in a language other than English or French, send it when you apply, along with the original copy of a translation done by a certified translator.

Does this apply even if a person has not left the country ? i have got my PCC ( India ) during August and i have not travelled outside Canada ever since.

Yes - it applies to everyone. It doesn't matter that you haven't left Canada.

This question has also been in my mind for sometime now.

i understand that the ”three month” time line is to keep the record up to date.
however if sb has been living in a foreign country for a certain period in the past, has never set foot in this country ever since, does this rule still apply?
say this person need to send cic an updated pcc, does it mean he has to redo the pcc in this foreign country, just to certify the same record for the same period of time, again? :o

for the country one is currently living in, i totally understand the necessity of the three month rule. But im confused for records in the past and what to do with it if cic calls for an update. Hope someone can help me with an explanation.

Yes, it still applies. You could be the perpetrator of a criminal offence that has been discovered since you left the country, and since the PCC was issued. CIC take a chance of this not being the case with the three months... Many people are charged and convicted in absentia in some countries. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trial_in_absentia

So... you want the VO to somehow verify that you have never set foot in that country since ... ? Or you want them just to take your word for it? They can't do it. The burden of proof is on you, the applicant.

there used to be a form with the PR application named travel history which i am guessing would vouch that information that i have not travelled anywhere outside canada

There is still a travel history form. Again, it doesn't matter how long you haven't been in a country or how long you have been in Canada. The police certificate still cannot be more than three months old when it is received by CIC.

CIC changed the PCC rules on 23rd April. They are now in your favour. Check them out at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/intro.asp

For the country you currently live in, the police certificate must be issued no more than six months before you apply.

For countries where you have lived for six months or more, the police certificate must be issued after the last time you lived in that country.

It is valid. You say you live in India. That means that your pcc from India cannot be more than 6 months old when you apply. For ANY OTHER COUNTRY in which you lived for more than 6 continuous months, you must have a pcc dated after you stopped living there, and that is all.

If you lived in Australia in 2010 and got your PCC from there in January 2015, it will be good for as long as you don't move back to Australia.
