Hi there. I am applying for a visa extension and have found conflicting information as to which payment methods are accepted for the fees.

On this website, it states that you can use a credit OR debit card:

But when you go to submit your extension on the Canada Immigration Online Services site, it emphasizes that they accept credit card only.

Can anyone confirm you can pay online via Visa Debit? I don't have a credit card so am worried

When we paid my fees we used my husbands visa debit from CIBC and it was fine. It may depend on the bank, you might need to just try it and see what happens. Worst case scenario you can likely get a free prepaid credit card from your bank, load the money for the fees on and use it. It’s not a “real” credit card but works most places debit isn’t allowed

Ah okay, thank you for your response! That's very reassuring

We paid our immigration fees with a Visa debit card from Scotiabank and had no problems.
