We had meant to pay the RPRF before DM, but were surprised and overjoyed to receive DM on the same day that we received AIP. We then immediately paid the RPRF. Do I need to mail in a receipt, and if so, to which centre do I mail it? I will be landing in Montreal. Thanks!

AIP and DM the same day! wow congrats, that's unusual I suppose! You might want to mail the receipt to Vegreville, but in your case, as you're an inland applicant, you will have to go for a "landing interview" at one of the CIC offices. You will probably be asked about the receipt at that point as well.

I'd heard of it happening before, but am thrilled an blown away that it happened for us. We have a really simple app, but still!

So you don't think it will hold up my landing appointment if I don't send my receipt off? We have travel plans in late March, so we *should* be fine on our timeline, but I don't want to make a misstep at this point that will cost me a vacation with my in-laws.

Congrats! I landed in Montreal last Thursday 29th August. I think you have to wait for the letter from cic Montreal to submit proof of payment and 2 photos for pr card. Then they will schedule you for interview with your sponsor. Good luck.

Does my sponsor have to come with me? That might be a problem. I though it was something I could do on my own. Now's not a good time for my husband to take any leave. We can probably manage it, if there's not other option, but we might not be able to just make it down there on any ol' day the Montreal centre chooses for us. He's on check out (kind of on-the-job training/evaluation) as an air traffic controller (and it's notoriously difficult to check out at this base), and he doesn't have a lot of flexibility while he's in the training system. A trip to Montreal would necessitate two days off work for him.

Hi, I just recently had my landing appointment so maybe I can help a little. The landing appointment letter states that if you were sponsored they have to be there with you, because the immigration officer will need to ask him some questions. (Don't worry just general ones like have you ever sponsored any other spouse, or is on government assistance/welfare. etc.)As well as will be asked to confirm his undertaking for 3 years.

So he needs to be there. Also the letter says that if you are subject to or have not paid the RPRF yet you can pay it on the interview OR in this cause you have already paid online bring the printed receipt.

I do not think it will cause you any delay if you don't send it to them.

Congrats!

Thanks for the info! And congrats on your landing! I've talked to my husband, and he thinks he'll be okay to get a day or two off. Fingers crossed. I'll just hang onto my receipt and hurry up and wait some more. I was trained for this, though, being a military spouse, haha. I've had a lot of practice of hurrying up and waiting.

Your welcome! I hope it works out and he can take days off. Just a little bit more waiting. :)
Based on Screech's chart it's 47-49 days for landing in Montreal.

Congratulations, QuebecOkie!

Thanks! I'm over the moon. I don't think I stopped smiling all day yesterday. It's unreal. We got so, so lucky. And under two months for landing would be excellent, indeed! Then just another couple of months, and it's really, truly over. Time spent in Canada won't be a problem for me, as we're posted here in Québec for at least another three years (well, we *think* we know that, as much as we ever know about the future), and even if he gets posted outcan again, it will count as time I reside in Canada as long as I'm following my Canadian and he moved for work. Checked THAT part out early on, as I could just envision us finishing all of this and getting posted outcan and me losing residency, haha! But found it still counts, as long as I'm following him.

For most people, accompanying a Canadian spouse abroad counts as time for retaining residency, but not as time towards citizenship. In your case, since your husband is in the Canadian military, the time will actually also count towards citizenship.

Good to have that verified, thanks. I read a lot about it in the first few months after we sent off the application. We had just had Canadian friends (who we had kind of "followed," they left Oklahoma for Saguenay a year ahead of us) get posted to Alaska. I was like, "OH CRAP! What if we go through all this and you get posted back to the US?!?!?" So I went a bit crazy reading for a while.
