From what I’ve seen, diplomats in Canada can’t just switch over directly to permanent status. Usually, they need to apply like everyone else — either for a work permit, study permit, or PR through one of the immigration programs. The tricky part is that their diplomatic visa doesn’t automatically give them those options. I’ve heard it’s a good idea to talk to an immigration lawyer, because the process can change depending on your country and the type of visa you hold. It can be a bit complicated, but definitely possible.

Thanks is it possible to change to visitor while staying in Canada?

Don’t think so because you didn’t enter on a regular TRV or passport. You really need to speak to a lawyer because this transition is much more difficult than you may think. Are you trying to immigrate to Canada? How old are you? Do you have 2 degrees? Are you fluent in French?
