My passport will be expired by 6/2017 and I just got my ITA:

1- Should I go for e-Apr with my current "old" passport then update CIC with the new passport?

2- Should I wait till my passport renewal then go for the E-apr with the new one?

In order to gain time you can go with this passport ,renew afterwards and intimate CIC.

You have three months to submit your application. How long does it take for you to apply for a new passport? If I was in your shoes I would start applying for a new passport yesterday.

your need is to renew the passport, it will be lot easier and quicker unlike getting a new passport.
from my experience I would renew first and apply in CIC

CIC requires passport to be at least 1 year before expiration when they request it.

I was in similar situation and my lawyer told me to renew my passport right away.
I got ITA and my new passport will be ready in a week.

In your application, you will include both passport, along with an explanation letter in the Additional Information document you can upload.

Apply with renewed passport since you anyway have 90 days to submit your eAPR.

Just apply for e-pr after that renew your passport and update your passport information to CIC. If Indian embassy take more time to renew Passport you r done
