Hello,

I'm pulling together all of the odds and ends to finally send my application off, and I was measuring the passport pictures that we are including in our application. It looks like they are about 1/6th of an inch longer than the specs ask for (Around 1.75 or 2mm). Will that cause any issue?

Also - the photos feel like they are printed on a marginally heavier stock than I've seen with a standard stock glossy photo. It's a bit more card-like, and doesn't have the standard printing on the back designating it as photo paper. It's a matte finish, and feels like maybe it has the thickness of a lighter business card (the it's pretty rigid). The guide says not to use heavy weight paper. Will this be an issue? EDIT - maybe a bit thinner than a business card, but still a bit more rigid than standard glossy photo paper. *shrugs.*

I really don’t want to get them re-done because Covid-19 is everywhere here and taking a picture requires removing masks. I would personally not think this is a massive deal, and I’d be willing to chance it if the result was simply that we had to submit different photos, but I’m worried that they won’t look at the application for another 4 months and then mail it back to us.

Also - it doesn't even mention the type of paper stock in the sheet that you're supposed to give to the person who actually takes the photos. What the hell? Why does it mention it in one item and not the item that actually goes to the photographer?!

Let me know. Thanks!

Anyone have any idea? How finnicky are they about size and paper stock? I’d really prefer to not have to get new ones :/

I think they are less picky about these than they used to be since they often end up scanning them. And your sizes etc are close.

But it's a risk and up to you.

Usually at or near embassies and consulates they have a list of shops that do the correct size.

Thanks for the response! If the pictures were deemed not acceptable, would they send back my entire packet or simply ask for new pictures? That would kinda be the deciding factor regarding whether or not I use them.
Thanks!

No-one can tell you. Probably not, but only a guess. I"m pretty sure our own app had photos not to the exact size specification and it wasn't returned.

Note I think they ARE more picky about the other instructions, ie what the photo should look like (background, head and shoulders, facing forward, no hats, etc - none of which I remember offhand so check that yourself).

Again, your call. If you're a worrier, perhaps better to get it redone since current delays are substantial.

yeah, I’ve combed through that in extreme detail, so that stuff is all good. The only real concern is the paper stock and the sizing. :/

Up to you. To be honest sounds to me like you are a worrier and you will spare yourself some anxiety by getting it exact.

The period between submitting and getting confirmation that it is in process is stressful even for the detail oriented.

You could submit a letter of explanation saying you will get exact size if needed covid blah blah blah but I suspect that would draw attention to what is probably a non issue. If it were me I would send as is (that's what I did), but it's not me and only you can decide.

Keep in mind 1/16th inch is 1.6 millimètres, so the agent would really have to measure to find fault. If my math is correct.

But again, only you can decide.
