Will they issue a passport request if I already have a valid eta?

Passport requests are usually for visa required nationals. If you don’t need a visa to enter then they wont request for your passport.

Yes they'll request for your passport since you would need a TRV visa

I actually have that as well from a previous temporary (6 month) study last year.

Visitors visa is one among the TRV, while applying for student permit if you have filled up the form (IMM5257B) -(optional) you will get OPR otherwise you won’t.

You need a S-1 student visa. Brazilians (along with Bulgarians and Romanians) are unique in that they generally require TRVs, but under some circumstances can also receive eTAs and fly to Canada for a visit without a TRV.

Isn't V-1,S-1 and W-1 all fall under the same TRV category? All of them are multiple entry visas as far as i know.

Yes, if OP happens to already has a multiple-entry TRV that isn't valid for longer than the study permit, they don't necessarily need a new counterfoil. But it may be up to officer discretion.

Currently V-1 is issued with 10 years validity and multiple entry, my dad got one last year.
