I received a passport request and I have got a question. Do I need to send my passport if I am from a country that requires eTA and my wife is from a country that needs a visa?
I was wondering if someone was in similar situation.

How much time they gave you to submit your passport. Can it be extended?

Just send a copy if you don't need visa to travel to Canada. For your wife, send the original passport.
