Need your help. I had applied for PR under CEC category while in Canada along with family. Subsequently while my family conitinues to stay in Canada, I have had to move to US on a job assignment. The query I have is when the Passport request is received for PR Visa Stamping can I send my passport to Canadian Embassy in US and family to CIC in Canada itself. Challenge is, since we are living in two different country, difficult to have all passports to be dispatched to CIC togather in same country. Thanks in advance for your i/ps.

This is simple. Since you are in the US and your family is still in Canada, you can send your passport to your family in Canada and they will send their passports too along with yours to Ottawa. Once they receive it back they can send yours to your place in the US.

I agree. Send passport to your family, and they will send everything to Ottawa.
There is not any point to send passport to Canadian embassy in US, because your application is in Ottawa

Thanks for response..but my followup Q is how to send passport to Canada from US. I understand, Fedex doesn't carry passport out of country and I can't stay in Canada for the persiod of 4-6 wks while stamping completes..not sure if legally I am allowed to send passport out of country of residence. Are my concerns valid..? It wd definitely be good if I could send my passport to my family in Canada and process all togather.

Yes, you can send it via courier (Fedex, UPS, JRS, etc.).
Call them and they will confirm it to you.

I just have sent passport to Canada via Fedex.
It should be delivered tomorrow, I can post here if everything was fine

Yes I also sent my passport from US to Canada via Fedex no problem!

Thanks all for your positive responses. makes things easy...by the way, did you disclose that content was passport or document of non commercial value.

Yes, you need to indicate that you are sending a Passport.

Nick,

I am also in US and doing medicals on Jan 6th. When you send your passport, did you included fedex return envelope for passport return? In other thread, it was mentioned that CIC will send in normal mail, if we didn't include Canada post express mail?

Why ? Can I just indicate that I send document ?

Again, your option. It will give them more reason to take care of your shipment.

And also it is clearer to customs - in case yr package is opened
People send their passports internationally all the time, it's no big deal

I have sent my passport, biodata and receipt, but put in the envelope description that I am sending "documents".
So, if custom will open my package and find a passport inside - do you think it can be a problem ?

Don't know but honestly, there's not much you can do about it but wait and not get panicked about something you can't control
