Hello Everyone.

I received an email from CIC - New Delhi, to submit my Passport. (Yes, its a PPR)

I m happy for that. Anyways, I m going on a vacation for 2 weeks to India. (19th April)

Now my concern is that, as I m working in UAE, I dont know for how long I will have to stay in India after submitting my passport??

I had send email to New Delhi visa office on 5th April and faxed (18th April) requesting to submit my passport in the end. (i.e. when they are ready to issue the visa)

Should I wait for their reply? Will they allow me to submit my passport at the visa issuance stage?

Experts please advise.

Hey there is no saying how long the passport can be with them, the time
Isn't 100% guaranteed, it can be 1 month, 2 months, 3, 4, 5, 6 or even
More than 6 if your case isn't straight fwd- and I heard if you have travel history (like staying at a different country for more than 6months)- it can take some
Time, depending on your case!!
It can even be 2 weeks or 3 weeks. You never know!!

So the point I'm making is, don't make any promises of trAvel, when they have your passport.

As far as you submitting your passport later on- they like to have it early- so that they can start BAckground check (if needed), I think- and also they will have your passport already when they are ready to issue visa- so there won't be any delays.
But it is POSSIBLE to request to submit your passport at a later time. Someone did this recently at the New Delhi office. If they don't get back to you, then ask your MP to contact them

It's been 3 weeks since my husband sent in his passport and we are still waiting for him to get it back, hope it's soon. I don't think you can tell them when you want it....I'd send it in.

Thank you CanadiansWife.

I landed India today. :) That's is a relief. I think I ll go for the second option. I will wait for the reply from New Delhi. It not, I will approach the MP to contact them.

Hi pandapenda,

I cannot submit my original Passport. As I m working in UAE, i cant be away from work for more than 3 weeks. And dont know how long will my passport be held at New Delhi Visa Office.

So I requested ND office to submit it in the later stage. I m waiting for their reply.

Whats ur spouse situation? If you would like to request back the Passport, send an email to ND office with a valid reason. Approach your MP, if ND dint reply you back within the time frame.

Hope this helps.

P.S.: I ve joined the January 2012 Applicant and New Delhi thread.
