Passport request is only the resident applicant or sponsorer too?

I'm wondering if the passport request is only for the permanent resident applicant and not the one who is doing the sponsorship also? thank you!

I would assume that it would only be for the applicant since they are the one getting the visa. You I would assume already have legal status in Canada.

It's only for the applicant. The visa officer might want to see the sponsor's passport earlier in the process if you used visa and entry/exit stamps in it as proof of travel together.
