Hello

I have a big concern and I don't know what to do or expect.
I applied for sponsorship to bring my wife to Canada. We are from Venezuela. Below is my application timeline so far.

Application was received on Apr 3, 2018
AOR was sent on May 9, 2018
Medical request letter was sent on May 10, 2018
Medical results received on May 15, 2018 and she passed.
on May 23, a passport request letter was sent to my wife with this information:

Dear (my wife's name)

This refers to your application for permanent residence under the Family Class or under the Spouse
or Common-law partner in Canada class.

We require the following item(s) to continue processing your application:
 > Passport/Travel Document: Valid passport or travel document. This must be
received at this office by: 2018/06/22

We called CIC to ask for more details since they don't mention if we should send a prepaid envelope to get the passport back and they said that they need a copy of the passport not the original document. So why they don't mention this on the letter? Now we sent the copies of all the passport pages since we were told to do that in a second call. I am confused at this point, why they want the passport so early in the process? do they really want the passport or just the copies? what if they really want the passport and not the copies? we have 30 days to send the passport as is mentioned on the letter if not the application could be refusal.

when I check my application status I have this:

Application/profile details
Where is this application? Details Help
Application status:
We are processing your application. We will send you a message when there is an update or if we need more information from you.
Review of eligibility: We are reviewing whether you meet the eligibility requirements.
Review of medical results: You passed the medical exam.
Review of additional documents: We need additional documents to continue processing your application. We will send you a message with more details.
Interview: You do not need an interview. We will send you a message if this changes.
Biometrics: We do not need your fingerprints. We will send you a message if this changes.
Background check: Your application is in progress. We will send you a message when we start your background check.
Final decision: Your application is in progress. We will send you a message once the final decision has been made
.
Has this happened to someone else?

Thanks

You have passed medical..............will advice that you follow-up with an "URGENT" email to the Visa Office processing your spousal sponsorship for clarification.

Passport request letter

The PPR letter that gets sent at the end of the process has a different wording, see an example here: https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-i...ore-processing-which-office-to-submit.551295/. That letter will also specify where to send it and how to include a return envelope.

I think what they're asking you now, is to send a copy of your wife's passport because it either wasn't received, wasn't legible, or perhaps it has expired and they need an updated one.

Contacting the visa office will give you a definitive answer if they need the original, or just a copy.
