Sorry for creating a new thread, I tried search but couldn't find my answer.

My situation: American being sponsored by Canadian...American passport expires next September (2017)...I'll be ready to send my Outland application by November 1st. Should I be renewing my US passport before I send application or just go ahead and send it with my current one?

US outland apps have been getting approved very fast so I'm not sure what I should be doing here...

Please help!

Thanks in advance.

American being sponsored by Canadian--- does this makes you immediate canadian I assume you are being sponsored as permanent resident and depending on your days in future you'll be granted canadian citizenship.I'm not sure if americans get canadian citizanship directly.

If you r sending a family sponsorship outland you need to have your nationality passport until you get canadian.

I thought the passport had to be valid for the amount of time the application is being processed and for landing purposes.

For the sake of easing your mind why not just renew it now.

I would go ahead and get it renewed as your PR card will expire when your passport expires (Sept. 2017). Save yourself the trouble of having to renew your PR card within the first year. My wife's passport expires in 2025, her PR card expires in 2025 as well. This is my advice.

Wish you all the best!

Sorry to interrupt , PR cad expiry has nothing to with Passport expiry , PR Cards expires every 5 years . However CoPR Validity will be linked to Passport validity , i.e you will be rushed to land before the expiry of your passport and if you passport expires before approval CIC will request a new one .

Yes my mistake - her CoPR is valid until this time.
