passport question of minor born in canada

Hu, i am driving to us from Niagara in land. I have my baby who is infant which we did not have his passport applied. CAn we take him without passport? Yhen what document we can show at border when we returning back to canada . Any immigration office where we can call and ask this question?

Please advise .

Children: Canadian citizens 15 years old and younger arriving by land or sea from contiguous territory may present an original or copy of his or her birth certificate or a Canadian Citizenship Card.

You can use that birth certificate to re-enter Canada as well.
