Passport guarantor writes on back of tiny photo?

I apologize in advance if I am not understanding the online instructions for passport application for new citizens, but am I reading, correctly, that I am to get a photo of just two inches by three inches, and then I have to ask someone to write a full sentence on the back and sign their name?

The requirement of a guarantor is odd but the requirement of a sentence and signature on the back of a wee photo is the oddest. I am reading this correctly, though, right? They can't just write on the receipt or the envelope that the photos come in instead, it has to be on the photos?

Anyone who has done this, please feel free to advise!

When got took my passport photo at Pharmaprix, they put a stamp behind with everything on it,
your guarantor just had to sign them.
I didn't had any problem when I requested my passport.
