When one is asked to send passport to get visa stamped, what are the requirements for the expiry date of the passport ? What if you have visa stamped which has one year validity, but passport expires before that date ? Please advise and thank you very much.

Then the visa will only be valid to the expiry of the passport.

Ques. 1: PMM replied. Besides, there is no minimum validity requirement for the pps.

Ques. 2: Read... http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/valid-visa-on-expired-passport-what-to-do-t39327.0.html

PMMm & Qorax,
Thanks to both of you. If PR visa is stamped and passport will expire before the one year, you can renew passport and use both passports to enter canada ( renewed passport + old passport with PR visa stamp ) ? In other words, as long as you renew the passport , the 1 year visa will not expire.

PR Visa is stamped with the validity date of 1year from the time of your medicals or the validity of your passport, which ever comes FIRST. So if your passport expires before the end of 1 year after the completion of your medicals then the visa is issued with the validity of your passport expiry date. Once you complete your landing which you need to before the PR Visa expires, you can renew your passport.

Max_Lee,

Thank you for the answer. But lets say I get passport PR visa stamped and the passport expires in 2 months , that means I only have 2 months to land in Canada. The question is :

What if I renew this passport ? Can I still use the PR VISA stamped on the old one to land in Canada and will I be able to use the 1 year limit since the passport has been renewed ?

U r unnecessarily getting confused between 3 things here... 1)Pps Expiry, 2)Medical Expiry & 3)PR Visa Expiry. All r unrelated. For 'landing' u have time till your PRV expires... that'll be related to the 'expiry' of the Pp u had sent for stamping; OR 1yr from the meds -whichever of the 2 is 'earlier'.

If the pp u had sent was expiring in 2 months -your visa will be expiring in 2 months. And thus, u 'must' Complete your 'Record of Landing' by 2 months only -irrespective of the 2nd passport's expiry date [which was obtained later -after the PRV was stamped].

However, if the pp u had sent for stamping was expiring later than 1yr -then your PR visa will be expiring on 1yr from the date of your meds. So, u'll have a 'longer' time to 'land'.

Hope that made some sense...

Hi qorax and other senior members,
I have a question, my passport which I used in my application so far (and this is only ppt in CIC-London record)was not having any more empty page. I have issued a new passport which I did not updated CIC. I received PPR. I need to send PPR with the updated information information Chart. I will fill this information chart with new passport. Is it acceptable for cic to stamp visa on my new passport even if it is not in their record but I am sending in reply to PPR?

Thanks
